Kayon Thunadar
Doesn't that lightning bolt move a little slow?

Kayon Thunadar

We were on the verge of the greatest fight to ever be fought by the Thunderers, or by any other moot for that matter. The lowlanders were going to pay for having attempted to raid us. Hakron Scaredtooth (that is as in scar not scare if you value your life) the greatest sky raider ever to come out of our moot was back amongst us for this battle. Nothing could go wrong.

All the crews were getting edgy. It had taken some time to get everybody in position and all that was left to do now was to wait for it. Hakron had called it a while back and we could all hear the rumbling in the distance. The storm that would carry us to victory was coming and we were waiting.

When it finally came, all the ships let their sails boom to ride its winds. Every captain knew what part they had to play but it took us some time to get organized in the air. As we were about to descend and give these lowlanders what they deserved, we realized that something would have to be taken care of before we got to that. We heard screams on drakars not too far from us. To make a sky raider scream, the threat must be great. In no time we understood what the problem was. Kayo Thunders, which means thunder spirits in your language, had followed the storm and now saw us as a threat to their precious lightning. Even though we had no interest in the electricity provided by the lightning, explaining that to a Kayo is not possible. So we had to defend our ships and ourselves.

This is how the greatest fight of the Thunderers moot ever came about. There were so many and attacking all the metal parts on our ships and on us. The ones that had fought them before cried out instructions and we eventually beat them off but it was a bloody fight. So when riding near a storm cloud, remember that the lightning and the gale winds are only your first worries.

Description

Kayon Thunadars, or the spririts of the thunder, are semi-transparent creatures that are white and blue in their youth and get close to black when they get older. A black one has never been seen, and if you did you would probably not live to report it. The older they are the bigger the clouds they follow.

A young normally is about 8 feet long and 3 wide. An adult would be 15 feet long and 7 wide. Legend has it that a black elder would probably be the size of a drakkar. These are social creatures, but the young ones can't withstand the weather the elders strive for. You would normally find 3-4 Adults in a pack of 12 youngs and 1 elder in a pack of 5-6 Adults. These creatures are always on the lookout for stormclouds.

In combat, Kayon's use their share bolt spell to defend themselves. To do so, they do a spellcasting test against the target's spell defense. If the test is successful, a bolt of lightning that was stored in the Kayon leaves to strike the target. A damage test determines the amount of damage inflicted by the bolt. Mystic armor protects against this damage. The target must be wearing or carrying some kind of metal to be a target of this spell. Kayon's do not feel threathned by targets with no metal, since they cannot pull the energy of lightning away from them, so they normally fly away if there are no threat.

Elders have two other ways of defending themselves. They can ram (same rules as charge, but ram step is the damage step), either a character or a ship, and they can use their Charge Metal spell. Charge metal allows the Kayon elder to transform a piece of metal into a powerful magnet. They cast against the spelldefense of the metal (2 if common metal, spelldefense of the ship if part of a ship). Once charged, any metal within 3 yards of the charged piece is attracted to it for a number of round equal to the spellcasting step. A STR test against the result of the effect test will prevent a metal piece to go to the charged piece. This test must be repeated every round the metal piece is within range.

All Kayon's can cast share bolt on another Kayon to trigger a recovery test (one must be available) with a step bonus of half the effect step rounded down.
